How to use a nebulizer?
Sit comfortably in an upright position.
If you are using a mask (large or child-sized), make sure it fits snugly against your face. There are holes in the mask that allow air to escape when exhaling. Breathe freely, pausing briefly at the end of each inhalation.
If you are using a mouthpiece, it should be held lightly between your teeth and tightly closed with your lips. Breathe through your mouth.
If you are using a nosepiece, carefully insert it into your nostrils. Do not insert it further into your nose. You should breathe through your nose.
Nebulization ends when the medication exits the nebulizer intermittently (bubbling in the container or spraying).
After nebulization, thoroughly wash and disinfect the accessories.
Advantages of nebulization
Nebulized agents and medications act precisely at the site of administration and are minimally absorbed into the blood. A medication administered in the form of a mist in high concentration reaches directly to the lungs, allowing the use of the smallest, most effective dose.
The ability to tailor the individual dose and type of medication to each patient.
When used early enough, nebulization can allow the patient to avoid the need for antibiotics, shorten the duration of the disease, and noticeably alleviate its symptoms.
