Dried and ground walnut is a natural hair darkening agent. Mixed with water, it dyes hair a neutral-cool brown, similar to Slavic, "mousey" tones. It also conditions hair and gently exfoliates the scalp.

Walnut is best used in mixtures with cassia, katam, indigo, or henna. Used alone, it may produce a much less uniform and lasting effect.
