Witch hazel water -is produced by distilling the bark or leaves of witch hazel - a tree called a magic tree in Mexico. The tannins (ellagitannins, hamamelitans), flavonoids, gallic acid, and ellagic acid constrict capillaries, improve microcirculation, and reduce skin redness and erythema. Aromatic water should not be confused with eau de toilette, which contains synthetic fragrances and is used for perfumery, not skincare. Plant waters have a rich, balanced composition and are more delicate than oils. Hyaluronic acid creates a hydrophilic film on the skin's surface. The acid itself does not penetrate the epidermis due to its large molecule, but it creates a layer of hydrogen-oxygen bonds that attract water molecules from the dermis. Water flows from the interior to the stratum corneum and hydrates the epidermis. A well-hydrated stratum corneum becomes more receptive to active ingredients. Helichrysum extract contains flavonoids (quercetin, kaempferol, luteolin), phenolic acids, triterpenes, diketones, resins, glycosides, and an essential oil with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, capillary-strengthening, and skin-brightening properties. Helichrysum extracts, hydrolate, and essential oil are used to treat vascular skin and rosacea. Horse chestnut extract is rich in saponins (escin) and glycosides (esculin), which reduce the fragility and excessive permeability of capillaries, restore their elasticity, and thus improve circulation. Horse chestnut bioflavonoids protect hyaluronic acid from degradation.
