The skin on the soles of the feet is about four times thicker than the average skin on the body. The skin on the heels, which are the first to come into contact with the ground when walking or running, must be strong and durable; it must be thick.
Thick skin has difficulty absorbing and releasing moisture, so it can be prone to dryness. If dry skin is not properly cared for, it can crack.
