Athlete's foot is a skin infection caused by fungi, mainly dermatophytes, affecting the soles of the feet, toes and the folds between the toes. Athlete's foot is one of the most common forms of fungal infection. Recent studies conducted in Poland have found that one in three people diagnosed with a fungal skin or nail infection have athlete's foot. It is the second most common form of fungal infection after nail fungus.
