The escin contained in horse chestnut extract inhibits the harmful enzyme hyaluronidase, which is responsible for the degradation of blood vessel walls. By inhibiting the action of the hyaluronidase enzyme, escin prevents the breakdown of hyaluronic acid, the main binder of the vascular endothelium. Vitamin C stimulates the synthesis of collagen, which is the basic building material of blood vessels, thus strengthening and sealing blood vessels and reducing skin redness.
