Dead Sea salt is a natural product obtained by evaporating seawater. The high temperature, resulting in intense evaporation, causes sea salt crystals with a unique chemical composition to precipitate in the coastal zone of the Dead Sea, creating characteristic "white lace" and salt columns on the shores.
The mineral composition is different from that of typical ocean water, referred to as "sea water." In other seas, as much as 97% of the salt is sodium chloride NaCl (table salt), but in the Dead Sea it is only 8%.
Dead Sea water contains approximately 53% magnesium chloride, 37% potassium chloride, the remainder being sodium chloride, calcium chloride, and various trace elements. In addition to chlorides, bromides, iodides, sulfates, and carbonates also occur as anions. The concentration of sulfates, SO42-, is very low, while the concentration of bromides in water is the highest in the world.
